The Region Menabe created in 2007 an event meant to promote its natural and cultural heritage. For 3 days, the endemic and exceptional fauna and flora of the region will be this year 2008 at the core of various festivities to attract tourists and local visitors, nationals and foreigners. JAMA 2008 will take place this year on July 17,18 and 19.
The main events which are the Marathon Vositse and the Festival Baobab are organised around two icons of the Region : the Vositse or Giant Jumping Rat, an endangered endemic species and the Baobab, this giant tree which is the emblem of Malagasy west coast.
The objective is to achieve sustainable development by valorising wildlife and cultural heritage while being environment friendly.
JAMA participates in the promotion and valorisation of the destination Menabe and of its cultural identity. It proposes a range of events over a week-end at Morondava and in the Menabe-Antimena protected area, such as beach, artistic and environmental activities, cultural and sportive ones. This is meant to be an annual and international gathering for the promotion of the whole region of Menabe.

JAMA MENABE 2008 will take place at high tourist season over the week-end of July 18- 19-20, 2008.
In general, the programme comprises : · The Festival of Baobabs: a festival which wants to be both an initiative for the protection of environment and the promotion of cultural, tourist and artistic events underlining the value of the mythic Baobabs Alley protected area , a symbol of the region Menabe, as a National and International Heritage.
And 2 combined events : · Ecology and tourism : They comprise activities organised by the Regional Office in partnership with Managers of protected areas (FANAMBY-ANGAPDURRELL- CIREEF) and the Bureau for Tourism. The main component consists in festivities called VILLAGES EN FETE in the protected area of Antimena- the special reserve of Andranomena and the Baobabs Alley, complemented by promotion campaigns by JAMA, the night of tourism, the village of artisans, and environmental awareness campaigns, … see details in annex 1.
· The Marathon Vositse: At its 5th edition, this sporting event proposes 4 events on the Baobabs Alley where local, national and international sportsmen will compete for the sake of environmental protection; this event is highly symbolic.
